October, 1944 was a period of rebuilding for the 445th Bomb Group.  New crews came in to replace the losses from the Kassel mission of 27 Sept 44.  This was the first month that they suffered no losses to enemy action.  They did suffer the loss of a lead crew from the 701st Bomb Squadron on a training mission flown 31 October 1944.  Thirty aircraft were dispatched, but only 29 reached the rendezvous point.  No distress call or wreckage was ever found.
